A science article can answer some questions, support hypothesis, or even provide some suggestions regarding an issue. Students usually encounter difficulty in understanding a science article. Given below are some tips that will help one to understand science articles easily:

Understanding the Topic

It is very important for one to first analyze and understand the topic of an article. Use background knowledge for a better understanding and to grab an idea about what the article is written.

Read the Introduction

After understanding the topic of an article, read the introduction carefully and highlight the important points. It is also advisable to summarize the introduction. This will help you in staying focused while reading.

Read the Main Body

Begin reading the main body of the article while keeping the main idea in mind. Use reference tools to help you with when you cannot understand any sentence or a word. Highlight important information and important points discussed in the main body.

Read Result Section

Read the result section carefully to gain a fuller understanding of what is being discussed in the article, and what is the purpose of the article. Also, read the recommendations and suggestions section carefully.

Write Abstracts On Your Own

Even though most articles do have an abstract of their own, write an abstract and summarize all main points including method, results, and recommendations in the abstract and compare it with the original abstract.

Find Other Articles About the Topic

To have fuller knowledge and understanding of what an article is about, search work of other authors. Try to read more about what was not discussed in the actual article and note it down. This will help you understand every aspect of the topic.
