From the Map Screen, you can select missions to play or select and display the menu for a particular Starting Point.
There are two types of missions: Main Missions—clearing these advances the story, and Sub Missions which do not affect the story's progress. In addition, as the game progresses, Twilight Missions with higher difficulty and higher rewards will also become available.
By Starting a mission, you will be taken to the mission screen.
This icon displays the current Guardian Spirit. Defeating enemies will increase the Amrita Gauge around the icon. When this gauge is full, you can use it to trigger Yokai Shift.
These icons display the Soul Cores attuned to the active Guardian Spirit. They light up when you have enough Anima to perform their respective Yokai Abilities.
Reduces as you take damage, the protagonist dies when this becomes empty. Use Elixir to recover some life. Praying at a Shrine will fully replenish this gauge.
Actions such as attacks and dashes consume Ki, but it regenerates automatically over time. When this gauge is empty, you cannot perform any actions which would consume Ki. Getting hit with an enemy attack while you have no Ki will temporarily put you in exhausted state, during which, you will be unable to perform any actions.
Anima is consumed when using Burst Counters or Yokai Abilities. It is accumulated when attacking enemies with Melee Attacks.

The protagonist fights under the protection of Guardian Spirits. Guardian Spirits can be changed from the "Change Guardian Spirit" menu at Shrine.
Each Guardian Spirit has a unique protection, and depending which of the 3 types it is—Brute, Feral, Phantom—your Burst Counters and Yokai Shift will change.
Once a Soul Core has been attuned to your Guardian Spirit, you can use its Yokai Ability.
* You can obtain multiple Guardian Spirits by progressing through the story.
* Soul Cores are occasionally obtained when defeating Yokai. Soul Cores in your possession can be used after purifying them by praying at a Shrine.
If you fall in battle, your Guardian Spirit will create a grave, and watch over it. The revived protagonist will be left without their Guardian Spirit, but if they reach their grave, their Guardian Spirit will return, and the Amrita lost at the time of death can be regained.
*If you die before reaching your grave, your Amrita and unpurified Soul Cores will be lost, but your Guardian Spirit will come back.
